These are the retirees and disability beneficiaries who need to know the date

Every week, millions of retirees and disability beneficiaries in the United States ask the same question: when will my Social Security payment arrive? For the week of Monday, October 5, to Sunday, October 11, 2026, the answer is one that many people do not expect: the Social Security Administration (SSA) has no regular payment scheduled.

This does not mean there is a delay or a problem with benefits. It is simply how the official calendar works. The October payments started earlier in the month, and the next group of beneficiaries will receive their money on Wednesday, October 14.

Why there is no Social Security payment this week

The SSA pays benefits on fixed days. In October 2026, the first two payments have already been made:

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) was paid on Thursday, October 1.

Beneficiaries who are paid on the 3rd of the month received their money on Friday, October 2, because October 3 fell on a Saturday.

Payments that depend on the date of birth are always made on a Wednesday, starting with the second Wednesday of the month. In October 2026, the first Wednesday is October 7, so the second Wednesday is October 14. That is why this week is left without a regular payment.

Who will get paid next: the October calendar

According to the official 2026 payment schedule published by the SSA, these are the remaining Social Security payment dates in October:

Wednesday, October 14: beneficiaries born between the 1st and the 10th of any month.

Wednesday, October 21: beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th.

Wednesday, October 28: beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st.

How the SSA decides the day you get paid

The rule is the same every month, so it is useful to know it. The payment day depends on when you started receiving benefits and on your date of birth:

If you started receiving Social Security before May 1997, you are paid on the 3rd of each month.

If you receive both Social Security and SSI, your Social Security payment arrives on the 3rd and your SSI on the 1st.

Everyone else is paid on a Wednesday: the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on whether the birthday falls between the 1st and the 10th, the 11th and the 20th, or the 21st and the 31st.

When the 1st or the 3rd falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the SSA moves the payment to the previous business day. That is exactly what happened in October.

Retirees and disability beneficiaries follow the same dates

Many people think that retirement and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) have different calendars. They do not. Both follow the same rules, so a retiree and a disability beneficiary born on the same day of the month will receive their money on the same Wednesday.

In the case of spouses, children or survivors who receive benefits based on another person’s work record, the payment date is set by the birth date of the worker on whose record the benefit is paid, not by the date of birth of the person receiving it.

What to do if your payment does not arrive

If your money does not appear on the expected date, the SSA recommends waiting three additional business days before contacting the agency. After that, you can call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or check your account through my Social Security on the agency’s website.

It is also a good idea to make sure your bank details are up to date, especially now that the government is moving away from paper checks.
