SSI recipients and disabled veterans receive their money early

The Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will both send money on Friday, October 30. The reason is simple: November 1 falls on a Sunday, so the deposits scheduled for that day move up to the last business day before it.

For millions of low-income seniors, people with disabilities and disabled veterans, this is the most important payday of the week. As we explained when we reported that SSI recipients will get two payments in October, this early deposit is not a bonus. Here is who gets paid, how much and what comes next.

Who will receive money on Friday, October 30?

Two large groups of beneficiaries will see a deposit on Friday:

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, who normally get paid on the 1st of every month. Friday’s deposit is their November payment.

Veterans who receive VA disability compensation or a VA pension. The VA pays benefits on the 1st of each month for the previous month, so Friday’s money covers October.

Retirees and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries who are paid on a Wednesday according to their birthday will not receive anything on Friday. Their last October deposit went out on Wednesday, October 28.

How much will SSI recipients get?

SSI is a needs-based program for people who are 65 or older, blind or disabled and who have very limited income and resources. In 2026, the maximum federal SSI payment is $994 a month for an individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple.

Many recipients receive less than the maximum because other income, such as a small Social Security check or wages, reduces the payment. Some states also add their own supplement on top of the federal amount, so the final deposit can vary from one person to another.

How much will disabled veterans receive?

The amount depends on the disability rating and on the number of dependents. According to the VA’s 2026 compensation tables, a veteran with no dependents receives:

$180.42 a month with a 10% rating.

$1,132.90 a month with a 50% rating.

$3,938.58 a month with a 100% rating.

Veterans with a spouse, children or dependent parents receive higher amounts. You can check the full tables on the VA’s official website.

Why there will be no SSI payment in November

Because the November payment arrives on October 30, SSI recipients will not receive any deposit during the month of November. The next SSI payment is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1.

This often causes confusion. The SSA warns that the money sent early is not an extra check, so recipients should plan their budget for the next few weeks with that in mind. If you also collect Social Security, your other payment will arrive on its usual date, as detailed in the Social Security payment calendar for November 2026.

When will the 2027 COLA show up?

The 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027 will not be included in Friday’s deposits. For SSI, it will be applied to the January 2027 payment. Since January 1 is a federal holiday, that money will arrive early on Thursday, December 31.

For veterans, the VA usually matches the Social Security COLA once Congress approves it. If that happens, the new rates apply from December 1, and the first higher payment would arrive on December 31 as well.

What to do if the money does not arrive

Direct deposits usually land in the morning, although each bank handles them at its own pace. Holders of the Direct Express card receive the money on the same day.

The SSA recommends waiting three business days before reporting a missing payment. After that, you can call 1-800-772-1213 or contact your local office. Veterans can call the VA at 1-800-827-1000.
