After a week without regular deposits, the Social Security Administration (SSA) resumes its payments next week. On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, millions of retirees and disability beneficiaries will receive their monthly benefit in the United States.
Not everyone will be paid that day, however. The date depends on the day of the month you were born and on when you started receiving benefits, so it is important to check whether you are part of this group.
Who gets paid on Wednesday, October 14
According to the official 2026 payment schedule of the SSA, the payment of October 14 is for beneficiaries born between the 1st and the 10th of any month who receive:
- Retirement benefits.
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
- Survivors benefits.
Spouses and children who receive benefits based on another person’s work record are paid according to the birth date of that worker. For example, if your spouse was born on the 6th and you receive a spousal benefit, your payment will also arrive on October 14.
Who will not get paid that day
Some beneficiaries should not expect any money on October 14:
- People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997. They were already paid on Friday, October 2, because October 3 fell on a Saturday.
- People who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Their Social Security payment also arrived on October 2.
- SSI-only recipients, who were paid on Thursday, October 1.
- Beneficiaries born after the 10th, who will be paid later in the month.
The rest of the October calendar
After October 14, there are two more payment dates this month:
- Wednesday, October 21: beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th.
- Wednesday, October 28: beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st.
It is also worth noting that the November SSI payment will arrive early. Because November 1 falls on a Sunday, the SSA will send it on Friday, October 30. This is not an extra payment: it is the November benefit, paid in advance.
Why the payment always lands on a Wednesday
Since 1997, the SSA spreads payments across the month to avoid sending all the money on the same day. Those whose benefits are linked to a date of birth are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of each month. The rule does not change, so once you know your group, you know your payment day for every month of the year.
What to do if the money does not arrive
If the deposit does not appear on October 14, the SSA asks beneficiaries to wait three additional business days before contacting the agency. After that, you can call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or review your payment information in your my Social Security account.
