When does Social Security pay in November 2026? Four dates by birthday, and one moves up a day

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will send four rounds of benefit payments in November 2026, and the first one lands this Tuesday, November 3. Retirees, survivors and people on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) will be paid on different days depending on when they started receiving benefits and on their date of birth.

This month comes with one twist: Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday, so one group will get its money a day early. Below we explain who gets paid on Election Day, who is next in line and what Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients should expect.

This is the Social Security payment schedule for November 2026

According to the SSA’s official calendar, these are the dates for the rest of the month:

  • Tuesday, November 3: people who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, and those who collect both Social Security and SSI.
  • Tuesday, November 10: beneficiaries born between the 1st and the 10th of the month.
  • Wednesday, November 18: beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th.
  • Wednesday, November 25: beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st.

If you receive spousal or survivor benefits, your payment date is based on the birthday of the worker whose record you are paid on, not your own.

Why is one payment coming early?

Under the normal rules, people born between the 1st and the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday of the month. In November 2026 that is Wednesday, November 11, which is Veterans Day, a federal holiday when banks and the Federal Reserve are closed.

When a payment date falls on a holiday, the SSA moves it to the previous business day. That is why this group will see the deposit on Tuesday, November 10. We covered the change in detail in our story on the Veterans Day payment shift. It is not an extra check: it is the regular November benefit, just one day earlier.

The last payment of the month, on November 25, is not affected. It arrives the day before Thanksgiving, which is Thursday, November 26.

What about SSI recipients?

SSI recipients will not see a deposit in November. Because November 1 fell on a Sunday, the SSA sent November’s SSI payment early, on Friday, October 30.

The next SSI payments come on Tuesday, December 1, and on Thursday, December 31. That second December deposit is actually the January 2027 payment, sent early because of New Year’s Day, and it will be the first to include the new 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). The maximum federal SSI payment will rise from $994 to $1,029 a month for an individual. You can read more in our guide to the SSI calendar for the end of the year.

How much will beneficiaries get in November?

November checks are still calculated with the 2026 benefit levels. The 3.6% COLA announced in October only applies to Social Security benefits paid starting in January 2027.

According to SSA estimates, the average retired worker currently receives about $2,095 a month, and the average disabled worker about $1,642. In January those averages are expected to rise to $2,170 and $1,701, respectively.

What to do if your payment does not arrive

The SSA asks beneficiaries to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the agency about a missing payment. If the money still has not arrived, you can call 1-800-772-1213 or check your payment history in your my Social Security account.

That account will also be important later this month. In late November, the SSA will post COLA notices in the Message Center for people who created their account by November 18. Here is what you need to know about that deadline.
