No Social Security deposit this Wednesday: when the next payment lands and who gets it

If you checked your bank account this morning looking for a Social Security deposit, it’s not a mistake: the Social Security Administration (SSA) has no regular payment scheduled for Wednesday, November 4. The agency’s Wednesday deposits only go out on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month, and the next round lands on Tuesday, November 10.

That leaves a six-day wait for millions of retirees, disabled workers and survivors. We explain who gets paid next, why one date moved, and what to do if your money doesn’t show up when it should.

Why is there no payment today?

The SSA splits most monthly benefits into three groups based on the recipient’s date of birth, and each group is tied to one Wednesday. The first Wednesday isn’t part of that system, so it only sees a payment when another date happens to land on it.

The people paid outside the Wednesday cycle have already received their November money. Those who started benefits before May 1997, or who get both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), were paid on Tuesday, November 3. SSI recipients got their November payment early, on Friday, October 30, because November 1 fell on a Sunday.

Who gets the next Social Security payment?

These are the remaining November dates for people who began receiving Social Security or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) after April 1997:

  • Tuesday, November 10: birthdays from the 1st to the 10th
  • Wednesday, November 18: birthdays from the 11th to the 20th
  • Wednesday, November 25: birthdays from the 21st to the 31st

The rule is the same for SSDI recipients and for survivors, although survivors go by the birthday of the worker on whose record they are paid. You can compare these dates with the full November 2026 payment calendar.

Why does the payment arrive on a Tuesday?

The second Wednesday of November is the 11th, which is Veterans Day. It’s a federal holiday, so the SSA issues the money on the business day before it. Banks and federal offices are closed that Wednesday, so the deposit date for this group is Tuesday, November 10.

How much will you get?

November’s check doesn’t include the 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027. According to the SSA’s fact sheet, the average retired worker’s benefit is $2,095 a month before that raise and the average disabled worker’s is $1,642. They are estimated to climb to $2,170 and $1,701 once the increase kicks in.

Your own amount depends on your work record and on any deductions, such as Medicare premiums.

What comes after November?

December brings a busier calendar. These are the dates to keep in mind:

  • Tuesday, December 1: SSI payment and VA disability and pension payments for November
  • Thursday, December 3: people paid on the 3rd of the month
  • December 9, 16 and 23: the three birthday groups
  • Thursday, December 31: SSI payment for January, the first one with the COLA

The rest of Social Security recipients will see the 3.6% raise in their January 2027 payments.

What if your deposit doesn’t arrive?

Don’t call the moment the money is missing. The SSA asks recipients to wait three mailing days after the scheduled date before reporting a late payment. After that, check your bank first, then contact the agency at 1-800-772-1213 or sign in to your my Social Security account, where you can review your payment details.
