If you are 62 or older and collecting Social Security retirement benefits, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed exactly when your money will arrive in August 2026. The agency issues retirement payments on four separate dates across the month, and the one that applies to you depends on your date of birth and when you first started collecting.
For most retirees, the deposit day is tied to the day of the month they were born. This is the same framework laid out in the full Social Security payment calendar for August 2026, which groups beneficiaries into three Wednesday payment waves.
The August 2026 payment days for retirees
Retirees who began receiving benefits before May 1997, along with those who collect both SSI and Social Security, are paid on Monday, August 3. Because August 3 is a weekday, no calendar adjustment applies to this group.
Everyone else is paid on a Wednesday according to their birth date. Those born between the 1st and 10th of the month receive their deposit on Wednesday, August 12. Those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on Wednesday, August 19. And those born between the 21st and 31st receive their payment on Wednesday, August 26.
Why the schedule is staggered
The SSA spreads retirement payments across three Wednesdays to keep the system running smoothly and to avoid processing tens of millions of deposits on a single day. Your assigned Wednesday stays the same each month, so once you know your group you can plan ahead all year.
Retirees who also want to know how much they will receive going forward should keep an eye on the annual cost-of-living adjustment. Benefit amounts are set to change once the 2027 Social Security COLA is confirmed in mid-October.
If your deposit has not arrived by your scheduled Wednesday, the SSA generally recommends waiting three mailing days before reaching out, since bank processing can add a short delay.
