The Social Security Administration (SSA) still has three payment dates left in October. After the deposit of Wednesday, October 14, millions of retirees, disability beneficiaries and SSI recipients are waiting for their money in the second half of the month.
The calendar depends on the type of benefit and, for most people, on their date of birth. This is how the remaining payments of the month are distributed.
Payments left in October 2026
- Wednesday, October 21 | retirees, SSDI beneficiaries and survivors born between the 11th and the 20th.
- Wednesday, October 28 | retirees, SSDI beneficiaries and survivors born between the 21st and the 31st.
- Friday, October 30 | SSI payment for November, deposited early because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
Payments already made this month
October began with the SSI payment on Thursday, October 1. On Friday, October 2, those who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 and those who receive both Social Security and SSI were paid. Then, on Wednesday, October 14, it was the turn of the beneficiaries born between the 1st and the 10th, as we reported in our article about who received a Social Security payment that week.
Why SSI recipients will be paid twice
SSI recipients will receive two deposits in October: the one on October 1 and the one on October 30. The second one corresponds to November, so there will be no SSI payment in November. It is important to manage that money carefully, because the next deposit will not arrive until Tuesday, December 1.
What to do if the payment does not arrive
The SSA recommends waiting three mail days after the scheduled date before contacting the agency. Most payments are now made by direct deposit or Direct Express card, since Social Security has been phasing out paper checks.
These October payments do not yet include the 3.6% COLA announced on October 14. The increase will be reflected in the SSI payment of December 31 and in the Social Security payments of January 2027.
